crying at the end, 2025 (ongoing).

Crying At The End (C.A.T.E) is a project for artists who self-define as overly emotional* and work with moving image, sound and/or digital media. C.A.T.E seeks to find alternative ways to share art and artworks outside of institutions and social media. All artists included in the project want to share their work with the public but don’t always feel confident to show their work in a physical space. **

*overly emotional artists are: desperate to be understood, mortifyingly embarrassed when praised, cry through the good and the bad, and care way too much.

** the artists of C.A.T.E want you to know this about section is a work in progress and will be revised as the artists see fit.

In March 2025, I invited 3 artists to participate (alongside myself) in crying at the end and each contributed a moving image work. Each artist – Josie Sommer, Farwa Tahir & Bhawana Jain – had 100 a leaflets made up, each with a unique QR code and A4 riso poster of their work. In May, the MA Fine Art course at Central Saint Martins were invited to showcase and sell their artist publications at the Offprint book fair at Tate Modern. For the fair, I made up the artist leaflets into packs. When I had conceived of the project I had not intended to charge, rather, I was more interested in the distribution and how to generate an audience for work beyond a physical space. But, as others were charging, I asked for either £2 or a story about the last time you cried. At the end of Offprint I was left with 70+ stories. I’m not sure what to make of it but am pleased with the interaction and story exchange.
